Wheels in motion for winter cycling |

The Winter Wheelers challenge with Love to Ride is back and runs from Monday 1 December until the end of January. Residents are encouraged to continue cycling to stay fit and healthy during the colder months, boost their mood and energy by getting outside in the crisp winter air and challenge themselves to build resilience by riding in winter conditions. Registering before 1 December means residents will be entered into an early-bird prize draw for £1,000. There will also be weekly prize draws throughout December and January. Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for planning, parking, highways and transport, said: “We know when the weather is colder it might not seem too appealing to go for a cycle ride, but overcoming that initial worry will have health benefits, as well as environmental and economic benefits, as there would be no fuel needed, just pedal power. “The whole family can get involved, but always remember to keep safety in mind, wear helmets and make sure your bike has lights if you’re cycling in the dark.” Workplaces can also unleash their competitive side with the fun and friendly workplace competition. Those who took part in Cycle September can try to beat their score and encourage co-workers to take part. Taking part is simple. Create an account, log rides either automatically or manually via the Love to Ride website or app, and earn points for each ride completed and for encouraging others. If you're a new rider, check out Love to Ride’s Top Tips and Quick Courses, find out more about Slough cycle routes, and be inspired by rider stories on the social feed.
